I Wish 03:52
Looking back on when I Was a little nappy-headed boy Then my only worry Was for Christmas what would be my toy Even though we sometimes Would not get a thing We were happy with the Joy the day would bring Sneaking out the back door To hang out with those hoodlum friends of mine Greeted at the back door With 'Boy thought I told you not to go outside' Tryin' your best to bring the Water to your eyes Thinkin' it might stop her From whippin' your behind I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go 'Cause I love them so Brother says he's tellin' 'Bout you playin' doctor with that girl Just don't tell I'll give you Anything you want in this whole wide world Mama gives you money for Sunday school You trade yours for candy after church is through Smokin' cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall (you nasty boy) Teacher sends you to the principal's office down the hall You grow up and learn that kinda thing ain't right But while you were doing it, it sure felt outta sight I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go

"Lady Grinning Soul" She'll come, she'll go She'll lay belief on you Skin sweet with musky oil The lady from another grinning soul Cologne she'll wear Silver and Americard She'll drive a beetle car And beat you down at cool Canasta And when the clothes are strewn Don't be afraid of the room Touch the fullness of her breast Feel the love of her caress She will be your living end She'll come, she'll go She'll lay belief on you But she won't stake her life on you How can life become her point of view And when the clothes are strewn Don't be afraid of the room Touch the fullness of her breast Feel the love of her caress She will be your living end She will be your living end She will be your living end She will be your living end She will be your living end

I know your eyes in the mornin' sun I feel you touch me in the pourin' rain And the moment that you wander far from me I wanna feel you in my arms again And you come to me on a summer breeze Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave And it's me you need to show How deep is your love? How deep is your love? How deep is your love? I really mean to learn 'Cause we're livin' in a world of fools Breakin' us down When they all should let us be We belong to you and me I believe in you You know the door to my very soul You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour You're my saviour when I fall And you may not think I care for you When you know down inside that I really do And it's me you need to show How deep is your love? How deep is your love? How deep is your love? I really mean to learn 'Cause we're livin' in a world of fools Breakin' us down When they all should let us be We belong to you and me Na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na, na-na-na-na And you come to me on a summer breeze Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave And it's me you need to show How deep is your love? How deep is your love? How deep is your love? I really mean to learn (I really mean to learn) 'Cause we're livin' in a world of fools Breakin' us down When they all should let us be We belong to you and me (Na-na-na-na-na) How deep is your love? How deep is your love? I really mean to learn 'Cause we're livin' in a world of fools Breakin' us down When they all should let us be We belong to you and me (Na-na-na-na-na) How deep is your love? This House 07:46
Whose sticky hands are these And what is this empty place I could be happily lost But for your face Here stands an empty house That used to be full of life Now it's home for no one And his wife It's a hovel and (Who) Who can take your place I can't face another day And (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here Cover me Under these fingertips A strange body rolls and dips I close my eyes And you're here again Later as day descends I'll shout from my window To anyone listening I'm losing (Who) Who can take your place I can't face another day And (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here Cover me Oh, in a plague of hateful questioning Tap dancing every syllable from ear to ear I hear the din of lovers jousting When I'm hiding with my head to the wall So (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here.

Blue Moon 04:50
Blue moon You saw me standing alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own Blue moon You knew just what I was there for You heard me saying a prayer for Someone I really could care for And then there suddenly appeared before me The only one my arms will hold I heard somebody whisper please adore me And when I looked to the moon it turned to gold Blue moon Now I'm no longer alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own And then there suddenly appeared before me The only one my arms will ever hold I heard somebody whisper please adore me And when I looked the moon had turned to gold Blue moon Now I'm no longer alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own Blue moon Now I'm no longer alone Without a dream in my heart Without a love of my own

You do something to me Something deep inside I'm hanging on the wire For love I'll never find You do something wonderful Chase it all away Mixing my emotions Throws me back again Hanging on the wire, yeah I'm waiting for my change I'm dancing through the fire Just to catch a flame Feel real again Hanging on the wire, yeah Said I'm waiting for the change Oh I'm dancing through the fire Just to catch a flame Feel real again You do something to me Somewhere deep inside Hoping to get close to you A peace I cannot find Dancing through the fire, yeah Just to catch a flame Just to get close to Just close enough To tell you that... You do something to me Something deep inside

The moment I wake up Before I put on my makeup I say a little prayer for you While combing my hair now And wondering what dress to wear now I say a little prayer for you Forever and ever, you'll stay in my heart And I will love you Forever and ever, we never will part Oh, how I love you Together, forever, that's how it must be To live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me I run for the bus, dear While riding I think of us, dear I say a little prayer for you At work I just take time And all through my coffee break time I say a little prayer for you Forever and ever, you'll stay in my heart And I will love you Forever and ever we never will part Oh, how I'll love you Together, forever, that's how it must be To live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me I say a little prayer for you I say a little prayer for you My darling, believe me (Believe me) For me there is no one but you Please love me too (Answer my prayer) And I'm in love with you (Answer my prayer) Answer my prayer now, babe (Answer my prayer) Forever and ever, you'll stay in my heart And I will love you Forever and ever we never will part Oh, how I'll love you Together, forever, that's how it must be To live without you Would only mean heartbreak for me

about

D’Ranged is the third studio album from the supremely talented pianist, arranger and composer, Janette Mason. A very definite departure from her previous two, critically acclaimed, albums, which took a clear jazz path, the concept behind D’Ranged was to take classic soul, jazz and pop tunes and inject them with a brand new jazz-inflected sensibility. To this end, Janette assembled an outstanding group of singers and musicians, who may not normally cross paths, to record nine new arrangements of songs by David Bowie, Burt Bacharach, the Bee Gees, Alison Moyet, Rodgers and Hart and more.

Janette is an astonishing musician and delightful yet assertive in her professionalism. She gets the best out of a persistent cavalcade of fine musicians, and there is a strong sense that their services at her behest are born of respect for her directorship more than anything else. Very soon after I first worked with her I knew it was going to be a bit Casablanca: "this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship." To collaborate on a Janette Mason project is to find oneself ever in an impressive musical company. I've worked with the best and Janette is effortlessly included on that list. (David McAlmont)

I've always been an admirer of Janette's playing and compositions. I was honoured to be part of her D'Ranged project and thought the songs she chose for me were perfectly suited and brilliantly arranged. The musicians were world class and I'm sure this recording
will bring Janette many more fans and delight those who are already know her work.
(Claire Martin)

Working with Janette on "D'Ranged" was an awesome experience! Her playing is rich, creative, and lively which completely intertwines with her soulful arrangements. Singing on her arrangement of Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" was really fun and I love how she combined elements of traditional jazz with R&B/Funk to put a new spin on the classic. I look forward to working with her again in the future on more great music!" (Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield)

It was a great surprise and an honour to be asked to be a part of this album.
We had fun in the studio.. Great connection with the band as well as Janette and I think you can hear that on the recording! Love the songs she chose ‘cos’ they are classics and love her arrangement of them too... This project is definitely a pleasure to listen to and I hope to get the chance to do it again soon! Thanks Janette! (Vula Malinga)

The results are simply stunning. For Claire Martin, with whom Janette has collaborated many times, she has written a cello quartet arrangement of the Bee Gees, How Deep Is Your Love and the classic Rodgers and Hart tune, Blue Moon comes across as its never been heard before.

In 2013, Janette had the pleasure of working with an emerging young American vocalist, Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield. So impressed with the maturity of Tatiana’s voice and innate talent, she was keen to bring her to the attention of UK listeners and arranged for her Stevie Wonder’s I Wish.

From 2011 - 2019 Janette was resident Musical Director at Hideaway in south London. Here she has had the opportunity to work on a varied range of projects with an eclectic group of musicians, including David McAlmont with whom she has been working on the Wall 2 Wall series of concerts, where they re-work the music of a particular artist. The two hit it off immediately, complementing each other with their diverse musical backgrounds. For David, she has arranged a haunting version of Bowie’s Lady Grinning Soul.

Vula Malinga is currently the featured vocalist with Basement Jaxx – a fearless singer, for whom she has arranged the Bacharach classic, I Say A Little Prayer as well as Cheryl Lynn’s 70s disco hit, Got To Be Real, which allows Vula the chance to really let rip.

Janette first worked with Gwyneth Herbert when she was very young and has witnessed her develop into a totally unique artist, here performing Janette’s beautiful arrangements of Alison Moyet’s self-penned This House and Paul Weller’s You Do Something To Me.
